    About Us

    Set up in the city of Ahmedabad two years ago, Bespoke Art Gallery’s independent business model and innovative approach has always sought to reframe what an art space can be, and the institutional role a gallery can play in building and supporting local cultural ecosystems. We try to create significant art gatherings in the city of Ahmedabad, providing an important gateway for discovery, learning and exchange of views and appreciation of art. We are working on doing a series of art shows with a strong lineup from the cities in India, across artists of all ages and mediums and materials. We are hosting Purusha Prakriti as an exhibition that celebrates Earth Month this April in an effort to support the world crusade for planet earth and all that is therein. The love for the landscape is a leitmotif in the functioning of Bespoke in the state of Gujarat.

    As a gallery that has an archival history of Indian as well as international art the gallery continues to champion artists from less- represented geographies across India as well as the globe. We believe in featuring works across mediums, as well as materials, to offer signature lively brushwork and vibrant palettes along with dulcet harmonies, the works in our curated shows will be formed of presentations that continue to expand the unique visual lexicon of contemporary Indian art as well as international art practices , which culls from everyday vernacular as well as broader life’s echoes and the vibrant culture of contemporary character.

    Trained as an engineer in USA, the Founder and Director of Bespoke Art Gallery Devin Gawarvala grew up in a home filled with art. His father Samir Gawarvala CEO of Rubber King ( tyre manufacturers ) conceived a revolutionary idea of visiting museums and looking at art while visiting countries abroad on work and expansion of the Rubber King market. As he searched around for art centered around visual content he started buying art for his home.
    Devin Gawarvala grew up in this home filled with Indian and international art. While training in America he too started visiting artist studios and expanded his trips to far flung places such as Ukraine and Uzbekistan, London and New York and Australia and Spain.
    Collector and gallery founder Devin Elaborates:
    “Bespoke for me is a progressive gallery that wants to create a graph and place for artists in the wide web of art collecting. I wanted to create a playing field of masters from all over the world which Indians can also relate to and understand. Gillie & Marc were one of the first artists I invested in. I started putting together shows before I opened the Bespoke Gallery. Here I was a young guy trying to understand the art world for what it is. I’d confess it takes a lot for a young guy to begin with art but
    for me since this was my family’s legacy I felt the need to take it up as a dutiful son .I felt whenever you are dealing with art and you are trying to enlighten yourself you know that art is long and life is short. It’s deep and diverse and a single lifetime is not enough to understand it to the depth you want.”

    Uma Nair has been writing for 35 years. She began her career with Economic Times, and currently writes features for Architectural Digest India, obituaries for The Hindu, and a weekly blog on TOI. 
    Author: She has authored Paresh Maity 25 years, 2005, ‘Arpita Singh’s Wish Dream’ (Saffronart Publication, 2010 sold for Rs 10 crores).‘Reverie with Raza’ (Akar Prakar, Mapin Publishing and Raza Foundation 2016).
