Shampa Shah

Shampa Shah is a celebrated contemporary ceramist with over 30 years of independent practice. Trained under P. R. Daroz and deeply influenced by traditional clay artists, her work bridges the gap between folk heritage and modern expression. Her art has been exhibited widely across India and internationally—in countries like South Korea, China, Singapore, Egypt, and Japan. Shah also played a pivotal role in curating clay traditions, having led the Ceramic Section at the Indira Gandhi National Museum of Man in Bhopal for over two decades.

Her curatorial projects include the renowned open-air exhibition Mythological Trail. As a consultant curator and folklorist at the Madhya Pradesh Tribal Museum, she continued exploring India’s rich craft traditions. Shah is a recipient of the AIFACS Award and Junior National Fellowship, and her writing includes Tribal Crafts of M.P. Her current ceramic work reflects themes of time, transformation, and interconnectedness, blending human, natural, and mythical forms.
