Saroj Kumar Singh is a soft-spoken sculptor whose work is as introspective as his personality. With a warm smile, he often playfully muses that, had he not been a sculptor, he might have become a poet or a cricketer. But his true passion lies in sculpting, where he seamlessly merges his love for poetry with his artistic creations.
Born in Jharkhand in 1976, Saroj developed an early fascination with Hindi poetry and an innate talent for shaping clay. After completing his education at Banaras Hindu University, the spiritual atmosphere of the city further nurtured his poetic spirit, while his studies in sculpture refined his technical abilities. Saroj’s work often reflects an abstract language, primarily using materials like brass and bronze to create intricate forms that evoke the natural world—intertwining roots, foliage, and organic shapes.
Though his style evolved over time, moving from abstract forms to semi-figurative pieces, Saroj’s sculptures remain grounded in his unique vision. His creations—whether large installations or smaller, intimate works—invite the viewer to experience the interplay between space, form, and emotion, marking him as a distinctive voice in contemporary sculpture.
