A figurative painter, having studied at the Republic College of Art (Uzbekistan) and London's Royal Academy of Arts, Timur D'Vatz merges ancient legends and symbols with a modernist style in vibrant colours. Taking inspiration from ancient history, early Byzantine art and mediaeval tapestries, D’Vatz explores core motifs and ideas that he believes have gained meaning and significance with each historical transition. Drawing on these styles, and referencing literature, religion, and astrology, D’Vatz’s paintings create their own modern mythology intrinsically linked to the recognizable iconic traditions of medieval painting. He has won several awards including the Guinness prize for First Time Exhibitor at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition, 1994.
