Renowned painter and photographer Sanjay Bhattacharya (b. 1958, Kolkata) is acclaimed for his realistic style and sensitive portrayal of everyday life. A graduate of the Government College of Arts and Crafts, Kolkata, his early influences include Rembrandt, Dalí, Bikash Bhattacharya, and Ganesh Pyne. Over time, he developed a signature visual language—marked by striking light, shadow, and emotional depth.

His paintings often depict Kolkata’s middle-class interiors and urban scenes, revealing quiet human dramas through exquisite detail. Bhattacharya’s breakthrough came in 1990 with a solo watercolour show in New Delhi, followed by a major exhibition at the National Gallery of Modern Art in 1994. His portraiture includes official commissions of Indian Presidents Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma and K.R. Narayanan.

Bhattacharya’s works are part of major public and private collections, including the World Bank and Parliament House. He lives and works between Delhi and Kolkata, continuing to explore new creative collaborations.
