Pratul Dash is an artist deeply engaged with themes of environmental degradation, urban alienation, and displacement. Born in 1974 in Burla, Orissa, Dash grew up surrounded by natural, open landscapes—an experience that continues to inform his artistic vision. His transition to New Delhi for a Master’s degree at the College of Art was a stark contrast, exposing him to the harsh realities of urban expansion and ecological decline.
Through evocative, layered works, Dash explores the psychological and physical dislocation brought about by rapid urbanization. His art reflects the struggle of maintaining identity and belonging in a world increasingly detached from nature. Often somber yet visually rich, his pieces serve as both personal reflections and broader social commentary.
Dash has exhibited widely in India and abroad, and has received numerous accolades, including the M.F. Husain Award and an Inlaks Foundation scholarship. He continues to live and work with a strong sense of social responsibility.
